The mantilla is one of the most traditional Spanish accessories and one most closely linked to our culture. This accessory originatedtostarting from the old shawl with which women traditionally covered themselves, which evolved into an eleganttouchedwithblonde(lacedone withthreadsilk),chantillyeithertulle.

The mantilla is held in place by a special type of large, intricately designed comb called a "mantilla comb." The most common colors are tortoiseshell and ivory, with the choice depending on the occasion. The mantilla is an essential accessory for Holy Week, flamenco performances, copla singing, and other important events. The Spanish mantilla is increasingly popular among brides as an accessory for their wedding dresses, replacing the traditional veil.

The defining characteristic of mantillas is that they are made from a single piece of fabric, without seams, and their most common composition is nylon and rayon. If cared for, good quality mantillas can be passed down through generations, as they are a staple accessory, usable on many occasions, and their traditional style is not significantly influenced by fashion.

TAMARA Flamenco offers a select catalog where you can find accessories for traditional flamenco dresses and easily purchase your mantilla online. Remember, whichever model you choose, you can be sure that at TAMARA Flamenco you will only find products that are 100% made in Spain.

The Spanish mantilla comb is an essential accessory for Holy Week, flamenco performances, weddings, traditional songs, and other special occasions. The highest quality combs are those made by hand. If they are 100% handmade, the cutting, dyeing, and polishing are all done individually and by hand. The most valuable combs are those with the most intricate openwork, as they are considered a perfect example of marquetry work.

In the past, horse combs were made from tortoiseshell, but today, as this species is protected, tortoiseshell is no longer available. The closest and highest quality material for making horse combs is acetate, whose composition makes it an almost perfect imitation of tortoiseshell. This material is highly flexible and has a beautiful glossy finish, and is known for its durability and resistance. Our horse combs are of high quality, so if cared for, they can be passed down from generation to generation in perfect condition. As a classic/traditional accessory, it is virtually unaffected by fashion trends and will always be a versatile accessory for various occasions.
