FLAMENCO FASHION GUIDE

FLAMENCO FASHION GUIDE

The new academic year has just started and dance academies are opening its doors again. Have you started tapping yet?

We bring you a complete guide to looking perfect for dancing flamenco. If you follow these advices, you will show your passion off inside and out.

Skirt

Do you remember that flamenco skirt you fell in love with when you saw it for the first time? It’s tricky, and it has rules as well.

The trick is the fabric itself, because others materials doesn’t work so well. It must be a static electricity-free fabric that prevents it from getting stuck to the skin. It must glide well and let us stop worrying about unpleasant runs in the skirt.

Did you know there is a

regulation on skirts’ fullness?

Besides, did you know there is a regulation on skirts’ fullness? Do not take a risk and visit a specialised shop. You will find different skirts that vary from shapes, sizes and colours at really economic prices!

At tamaraflamenco.com you will find from basic skirts to surprising design models. Don’t you want to see them? Take a look at our flamenco skirt section.

Even though we are in love with all the different models and colours, we have to remember that the most usual skirt is the black one. Most part of instructors and academies are quite inflexible about the outfit, so it’s important to keep that in mind.

Just a quickly tip: the most traditional one is the simple skirt with one flounce and a regulated fullness. But, nowadays, godet skirts are usually worn too.

Wear a skirt and stand out. What are you waiting for?

Shoes

The most suitable shoes to start dancing flamenco are practice dance shoes with nails. You need to make sure they are made of leather or suede. This is especially important if you don’t want to suffer from blisters: plastic or imitation leather shoes usually cause those painful blebs. This last kind of shoes may also make your feet sweaty and smelly.

Be smart when it comes to choosing your shoes: for a little amount, make the difference and get a really confortable, resistant and functional pair of shoes. Your feet deserve quality and “cuddling” products. Leather shoes are available from 26,95€! Take a look to our practise shoes section.

Remember there’s nothing worst than dancing with a pair of hurting shoes. So let the dance and your feet wear leather!

dancing with a pair of

hurting shoes.

Don’t let that happen!

Nails are another important point about flamenco shoes. They provide your shoes with a unique resonance. Otherwise, you won’t get the sound you want, no matter how hard you stamp. Placing these nails is considered to be an art, so you should visit a specialised shop to get a real pair of dance shoes.

Sometimes, it’s difficult to choose between straps and elastic straps. The simple strap is usually the best option because it ensures a proper fastening of your feet. Even so, the elastic strap is a cheaper option to start tapping.

There are some golden rules to make sure your shoes are perfect: they must be tight and your nails mustn’t get in contact with the tip.

The Golden rules:

1. Shoes must be tight

2. Nails mustn’t get in contact with the tip

3 – Don’t let anything stop your movements

Top

To finish up with your dance outfit you can choose between a top and a maillot. Girls, thanks to its comfort and functionality, usually wear the last one, also known as body. If you are looking for a beginner dance outfit, a polyamide basic body is perfect. They are quite cheap, practical and breathable. You can find as well cotton, supplex or lycra bodies; these fabrics are premium quality but its price is a little higher.

A quick tip: get a couple of them so you don’t need to hurry up with the laundry!

Tip:

Get a couple of bodys

to always being ready.

Adult dancers, however, prefer shirts to bodies in the classroom. So opt for the most comfortable one for your movement and expression. Thus, if you prefer a shirt, we recommend you viscose or polyamide. They’re light, breathable and absolutely comfortable. And they look perfect!

Whatever your choice is, you need to keep the sleeves in mind. If you are going to dance in Andalusia or your academy is well acclimatized, you should opt for a tank top or a short-sleeved t-shirt. By wearing a long-sleeved t-shirt, you would probably sweat and be too hot. If you feel cold, long-sleeved tops (or chupitas) are always a good option. As you can put them up or off really quickly, you won’t miss a thing of the lesson.

Chupitas and boleros

But what are these accessories? They are a kind of cardigans or long-sleeved shirts, usually tied on the front. They are really convenient and comfortable, but that’s not all. Depending on the model and its fabric, they can protect you from the cold or add an elegant touch to your outfit.

If you nose around a bit, you’ll find from basic models to beautifully laced chupitas at our online shop.

But there are some models that will just keep you well warmed.

Professional dancers wear them during the first 15 minutes, just for the warm-up, and then they take it off!

Use them like a profesional dancer:

Just for the warm-up!

Hola! Muchas gracias!
